When it comes to home projects, very few people can beat Tamara Day and the know-how she’s gained over the years. That’s why millions of people are tuning in to see her show, Bargain Mansions, on the DIY Network and HGTV.
During her second season on-air Day focused on a unique project --- bumping up a ranch-style home into a two-story U-shaped design. She selected a stair system from Stair Parts Now as a way to connect the new second floor to the first floor of the home.
“As soon as you go in the home the staircase serves as a major feature in the entryway,” says Day, who hosts a blog and the popular television show based in the Kansas City area. “My vision was to keep the staircase simple to reflect the historic nature of the house. This particular stairway is elegant and fresh-looking. I like how it doesn’t dominate the house, but blends in perfectly with all the other architectural design elements.”
Open, Clean Feeling
The Stair Parts Now stair system used in the home is a square balustrade system painted in white with box newels. A plowed handrail with fillet in hickory complements the wood flooring on the staircase.
“The stairway has such an open, clean feeling,” says Day. “The white of the balusters really complements the white of the mouldings on the ceiling along with the white trim around the windows. This stair system just ‘fit’ this home perfectly.”
A mother of four, Day identifies and focuses on large, neglected houses to give them new life for their next residents. In recent years her efforts have been shared nationwide with people on her Bargain Mansions television show.
“There are so many design and decorator challenges involved with these projects … and they multiply when you try to capture all the details on camera,” says Day. “For this Belinder project, we worked hard to truly use our imagination to transform an old, run-down ranch-style home. We wanted to respect the integrity of the original home while making it more livable and spacious.
“When it came time to install the Stair Parts Now stair system it was a very simple, straightforward project. I loved that the pieces came long, so they could be cut to size on site. The products are top-quality, solid pieces that I can absolutely see recommending again in another project house in the future.”
